"Here's a thought: How can vampires fly (on planes)? Usually it's pretty sunny up there, and people keep their windows up. Wouldn't someone notice the sparkle? People would be freaking out! "Ah! It's a fairy!" It'd probably cause mass panic and the air marshal would try to shoot them! But it wouldn't work! So he'd go on a shooting spree, right?! And eventually, he'd shoot an innocent bystander! And the blood would drive the vamp into a frenzy! Geez, Smeyer sure didn't think that through..."

You know another thing SMeyer forgot, is that when faced with an unusual situation people first leap to the most logical explanation they can find.
See someone dressed in clothing from 1800s your first thought is ‘period costume’ not ‘time travel’
See someone who sparkles? First thought is probably ‘Nice glitter, *snicker*’ not “OMG A FAIRY!”
Sure there are a few people who want there to be something more and therefore cling to any evidence they can find. But that’s because they want to see it.
So while I do have many many problems with Twilight, I don’t think this is one of the big plot holes of the book.
